What Is the Right Mechanical Seal for a Jasco Chemical Pump?
A chemical pump seal works harder than a water pump seal. The liquid can attack the elastomer, crystallise on the faces, or carry solids that wear the seal ring. A seal that is wrong for the fluid fails in weeks, not years. For Jasco pumps, the right seal depends on three things: the fluid being pumped, the shaft size, and the fitted length of the original seal.
Our Jasco pump seal is made to the original fitting dimensions, so it replaces the worn seal directly in the existing pump. We match the face and elastomer to your fluid. For clean or mildly abrasive liquids, a Carbon face against a Silicon Carbide seat gives smooth running and low leakage. For harder duty, such as slurry or crystallising fluids, a Silicon Carbide against Silicon Carbide pair resists wear better. FKM suits most acids and hydrocarbons, EPDM suits alkalis and hot water, and PTFE-encapsulated rings are used for aggressive chemicals.
Fitting guidance from our workshop: check the shaft for scoring, clean the seal housing, keep the faces free of oil and fingerprints, set the working length exactly as per the original, and never run the pump dry, even for a short test. Most repeat failures we see in the field come from dry running and wrong elastomer choice, not from the seal itself.
MECH-SEAL ENGINEERING (INDIA) PVT. LTD. has made and supplied mechanical seals from Mumbai since 1978. Send us your Jasco pump model, shaft size and the fluid handled, and our team will confirm the correct seal before you order.
