How to Choose the Right Mechanical Seal for an Aqua Pump
When an Aqua pump starts dripping at the shaft, the mechanical seal is almost always the cause. Left alone, the leak soaks the bearings, rusts the shaft and, in a submersible pump, lets water reach the motor winding. A seal replaced on time costs far less than a rewound motor.
Our Aqua pump seal is made to the original fitting dimensions, so it goes into the existing pump with no change to the shaft or housing. To confirm the right size, we need only three details: the pump model, the shaft diameter, and the fitted length of the old seal.
For ordinary clean water, a Carbon rotary face against a Silicon Carbide seat gives low leakage and a long service life. If your water carries sand or silt, as many borewells do, the hard Silicon Carbide seat resists scoring far better than a ceramic seat. EPDM suits cold and warm water, NBR suits water with traces of oil, and FKM is used where the water is hot or slightly treated.
Practical tips from our workshop: prime the pump before the first start, never run it dry, fit the seal with clean hands and a little water or glycerin on the rubber parts (no grease or mineral oil on EPDM), and check the shaft for grooves before fitting. Dry running and silt are the two reasons we see most often for seals that fail early.
