Unbalance Seals

Wave Spring Unbalanced Mechanical Seal

  • Undulating wave-form spring reduces axial length compared to conventional coil spring designs
  • Unbalanced face construction keeps the design simple and economical for standard-duty service
  • Low-profile spring geometry suits pumps with restricted seal chamber depth
  • Even, uniform closing force across the wave coils reduces face flutter at moderate speeds
  • Reduced spring surface area limits solids entrapment compared to tightly wound coil springs
  • Compact single-spring assembly simplifies installation on standard pump shafts
  • Cost-effective option for OEM and retrofit pumps where chamber space is limited but pressure demands are modest
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A Space-Saving Seal for Standard-Duty Pump Applications

Fitting a wave spring unbalanced seal follows the usual spring-seal process — the rotating assembly is slid onto the shaft, the wave-form spring is compressed to its specified working length, and the stationary seat is aligned squarely in the chamber before final tightening. What makes this design useful is its shorter axial footprint: the flattened wave spring takes up noticeably less space than a standard coil, which matters in compact pump housings and OEM equipment with tight tolerances. Since it's unbalanced rather than a balanced face design, it's best matched to pumps running at moderate pressures where the added cost and complexity of a balanced seal isn't justified. It remains a practical, budget-friendly choice for general industrial and utility pump service where space is the limiting factor rather than pressure.
