Mechanical Seal Springs
The spring is what keeps the seal faces pressed together under pressure fluctuations, shaft movement, and thermal expansion — pick the wrong type and the seal faces open up under the exact conditions they were meant to handle. Mech Seal Engineering manufactures springs in three configurations: Single Helical, a straight coil spring offering stable, uniform loading and the standard choice for clean media at moderate speeds; Wave Spring, available in welded and non-welded construction, which delivers even axial force in a compact, low-profile footprint for space-constrained housings; and Conical Spring, a self-cleaning, tapered design that resists clogging from particulates and doubles as the shaft drive mechanism — making it well suited to dirty or viscous media, though it must be matched to shaft rotation direction (right-hand or left-hand). The right spring type depends less on pressure rating and more on fluid cleanliness and available installation space.
Single Helical Springs
Single helical (coil) springs provide the closing force behind most conventional mechanical seals, generating consistent axial load that keeps the seal faces in contact under normal operating conditions. Manufactured in corrosion-resistant stainless steel and Hastelloy grades, they're built to match the original spring dimensions and wire diameter for direct fitment across our full range of single spring seal types. We supply these springs individually for maintenance and rebuild work wherever spring fatigue or corrosion is the cause of a seal's reduced performance.
Wave Springs (Welded / Non-Welded)
Compact wave-form spring, uniform load distribution, reduced axial length.
- Welded and non-welded construction options
- Direct fit for wave spring seal assemblies
- Manufactured in stainless steel and Hastelloy grades
Conical Springs
Conical (cone-shaped) springs provide a self-cleaning spring action, with wider coil spacing at the base that resists solids buildup better than a standard cylindrical coil, making them well suited to slurry and mildly contaminated fluid service. Manufactured in corrosion-resistant stainless steel and Hastelloy grades, they're built to match the original spring dimensions for direct fitment across our conical spring seal range. We supply these springs individually for maintenance and rebuild work wherever spring fatigue or fouling is affecting seal performance.
