John Crane
John Crane Type 2 Replacement Mechanical Seal
- Outside-mounted spring keeps the working height compact for short stuffing boxes
- Fits confined-space equipment — pumps, mixers, blenders, and agitators alike
- Drive band and notches absorb torque without slippage or shaft scoring
- Self-aligning bellows compensates for shaft end play and face wear automatically
- Non-clogging single-coil spring stays reliable even with solids in the fluid
- Set screw lock collar option available for simplified fitment
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Compact Sealing for Space-Constrained Equipment
What makes the Type 2 stand out isn't the sealing principle itself, which follows the same bellows logic as the rest of John Crane's elastomer range, but where the spring sits — mounted outside the bellows rather than inline, which shrinks the seal's working height considerably. That compact profile is exactly why it turns up on equipment where the seal chamber simply isn't deep enough for a standard-length seal: mixers, agitators, blenders, and pumps with shallow stuffing boxes all rely on this geometry to fit at all. Our equivalent carries the same outside-spring construction and self-aligning behavior, so it drops into those same tight chambers without requiring any modification to the housing. If you're planning the fitting sequence for a confined-space installation, our blog walks through the spring compression and alignment steps in more depth.
